Open it in Figma, Illustrator or Inkscape; no extra conversion is needed.

SVG output becomes available after your first purchase; the 3 credits a new account receives cover one PNG image at Low quality, not an SVG. Doing it yourself means generating in tool A, exporting, opening tool B, configuring trace settings, then cleaning up the result by hand. In Visual Asset mode the SVG is ready next to the PNG when the generation finishes. Prompts with flat colors, a small palette and a plain background trace most cleanly, and the logo template is written that way.

Visual Asset: GPT Image 2 draws a raster image, then a vectorizer traces it into SVG paths. You keep the normal controls (quality, size, background, 1 to 4 images) and also get the PNG. Best for logos, icons, stickers and flat illustrations.

Typography & Pattern: a language model writes the SVG code directly, so headings stay as real, editable text and patterns are built from exact geometry. Posters come out at 1080×1350 and patterns at 800×800, with optional style presets such as Swiss, Bauhaus, Brutalist, Art Deco, Mandala and Islamic Tessellation.

Diagram: GPT Image 2 drafts the diagram as a reference image, then a vision model rebuilds it as SVG with nodes, connectors and text labels. Use it for flowcharts, sequence diagrams, swim lanes, ER diagrams and mind maps.

Not in Visual Asset mode. The vectorizer traces everything in the image, letters included, into outline shapes: you can recolor, move or delete them, but you cannot retype them. For a wordmark, generate the symbol without text (the logo template already asks for no text) and set the brand name in your design tool with a real font. If the text itself is the design, such as a poster or quote card, use Typography & Pattern, which writes text into the SVG as text elements.

The vectorizer turns every patch of distinct color into a shape. Gradients, soft shadows, photo textures and fine noise become hundreds or thousands of small paths, which makes the file heavy and hard to edit. Prompts that ask for flat fills, a limited palette, solid outlines and no shading trace cleanly. If thin lines or small details break apart, try the same prompt at a higher quality setting before rewriting it.

Not through the Background setting: Transparent only works with PNG and WebP output, so selecting it switches SVG off. Ask for a plain white or single-color background instead. After tracing, the background is usually a separate shape that you can select and delete in your vector editor, which leaves the artwork on an empty canvas.

You can upload it in the Edit tab with SVG selected, but GPT Image 2 redraws the image before it is traced, so shapes and details may shift. It is not a pixel-exact conversion, and it costs the image price plus 20 credits for the edit and 10 for vectorization. If you need a faithful trace of a file you already have, use a dedicated tracing tool instead.
