WebP is Google's image format for the web. Most sites now serve it because it is smaller than JPG and PNG, which is why images you save from a browser so often end up as .webp. The trouble starts afterwards: older versions of Photoshop, Word, PowerPoint, many print services and some messaging apps still cannot open it.
PNG is lossless and supports transparency, so converting WebP to PNG keeps every pixel and every transparent edge exactly as it was. Logos, stickers, icons and product cut-outs stay clean on any background.

Frequently asked questions
Does WebP to PNG conversion keep the transparent background?
Yes. PNG supports a full alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent pixels in the WebP are copied over unchanged. The checkered area you see in an editor will still be transparent.
Why is my PNG bigger than the WebP?
WebP uses stronger compression, and lossy WebP throws away detail that PNG then has to store pixel by pixel. A PNG two to five times larger than the WebP is normal. If size matters more than transparency, use PNG to JPG afterwards.
Can I convert animated WebP files?
Animated WebP files are converted to a single PNG of the first frame. PNG cannot hold animation; for moving images, use our video to GIF tool on a screen recording instead.
Why do images I save from websites download as WebP?
Browsers tell websites they understand WebP, and image CDNs reply with WebP to save bandwidth. The same picture may still exist as JPG or PNG on the server, but converting the file you already have is quicker.
